Healing with Purpose: Dr. Alexandra Oliveras-Houser and the Power of Momentum

Dr. Alexandra Oliveras-Houser, co-founder of Momentum Chiropractic in Tampa Bay, empowers healing through neurologically based care. Despite challenges, she thrives by leveraging community support and offers hope to patients, especially Latina entrepreneurs, to persist and succeed.

When Dr. Alexandra Oliveras-Houser first left her hometown of Ponce, Puerto Rico, her journey took her through North Carolina and South Carolina before finally settling in Tampa Bay. Along the way, she carried more than just her background in biomedical sciences—she carried a passion for healing, a drive to educate, and a commitment to serve her community. Today, as co-founder of Momentum Chiropractic alongside her husband, she’s helping transform lives through neurologically based chiropractic care.

Momentum Chiropractic isn’t your typical practice. Dr. Oliveras-Houser and her team use a combination of surface electromyography (EMG), cervical and vertebral scans, and X-rays to design custom corrective care plans that go beyond pain relief. Their approach focuses on restoring nervous system function, helping patients not only feel better, but function at their highest level.

Their services continue to expand, and they are now also helping federally injured workers—including postal employees—navigate everything from case management to therapy, so they can receive the care they need and get paid through federal programs. This has opened new doors for those who often struggle to access proper support within the workers’ compensation system.

But building a business from the ground up was no easy task.
“Starting was tough,” Alexandra shared. “We had to take out a high-interest business loan, and we were hit with unexpected costs we didn’t plan for. But we didn’t give up—we just kept pushing forward.” Eventually, through smart financial planning and persistence, they were able to refinance with a bank loan at a lower interest rate, giving them the breathing room they needed to grow.

Dr. Oliveras-Houser credits much of their progress to preparation and strong community connections. “You can’t do it alone,” she said. “Networking and building relationships—especially through organizations like the Tampa Bay Latin Chamber—helped us get through those hard times.”

Momentum’s impact speaks for itself. One patient came in with a disc herniation and was facing surgery. Through regular adjustments and spinal decompression therapy, they avoided the operating table altogether and returned to a pain-free life. Another patient, who suffered from severe neuropathy and had trouble walking, saw dramatic improvement in mobility and quality of life.

“For us, those wins mean everything,” Dr. Oliveras-Houser said. “They remind us why we do what we do.”

As a proud Latina business owner, Alexandra also understands the importance of representation and encouragement. “There are still so many barriers for women—especially Latina women—in business. But we’re capable. We just need to prepare, keep learning, and ask for help when we need it.”

To aspiring Latina entrepreneurs, her message is clear: “Don’t give up. Surround yourself with the right people, lean on your community, and believe in your mission.”

With Momentum Chiropractic now growing steadily, Alexandra’s vision is simple but powerful: to keep helping people heal, to empower others through knowledge, and to make wellness accessible to all.
