When you meet Jeff Minaya, you quickly sense his energy and purpose. For over 14 years, Jeff has dedicated his career in the financial industry not just to numbers and accounts, but to people—especially within the Hispanic community. His passion is clear: helping businesses thrive, supporting families, and making sure resources are accessible to everyone, whether they’re established entrepreneurs or just getting started.
Jeff recently made a big career move, transitioning after 11 years at another credit union to his new role with Suncoast Credit Union. For him, this change was more than just a job shift—it was a chance to reaffirm the power of relationships.
“Just because I changed jobs from one company to another didn’t stop the momentum,” Jeff shared. “The connections I’ve built through the Tampa Bay Latin Chamber stayed strong, and that has been invaluable.”
Finding Purpose in the Chamber
Jeff has been deeply involved with the Tampa Bay Latin Chamber (TBLC) for the past two years. From sponsoring and attending events to stepping up as a keynote speaker, his contributions have left an impact. But what keeps him engaged isn’t just the professional visibility—it’s the authenticity.
“The TBLC is one of my favorite chambers because we’re doing it the right way,” Jeff explained. “It’s about creating opportunities, providing resources, and supporting each other. There’s no pressure, just collaboration.”
That spirit of collaboration has carried Jeff through his recent transition. He emphasized how TBLC leaders—President Diana Walker and Vice President Sandra Atiles Tyrell—along with the community at large, supported him every step of the way.
“This move was a promotion I had been working toward for a long time. To know I had the full backing of the chamber made the process smoother. It’s not about where we were—it’s about the relationships.”
Challenges that Shape Us
Like many professionals, Jeff faced challenges during the pandemic. For someone whose work revolves around face-to-face connections, the shutdowns were a test.
“Those were defining years,” he reflected. “We had to adapt, adjust, and make the best of what we had. Shifting to virtual platforms and finding new ways to connect taught me resilience and flexibility.”
Rather than slowing him down, that period fueled his drive to keep building community-focused initiatives.
A Proud Chamber Moment
When asked about his proudest accomplishments, Jeff immediately pointed to a chamber initiative: the Fail Forward program. Designed to spotlight lessons learned from setbacks, it became a powerful platform for growth and storytelling.
“What started as an idea quickly turned into something much bigger,” Jeff said. “The way people showed up, participated, and took away valuable insights—it felt like a real win. It showed the power of collaboration between the chamber and its members.”
The Power of Consistency
For Jeff, another standout aspect of the TBLC is consistency. With regular events, cafecitos, and networking opportunities, the chamber makes sure there’s always a space to connect.
“If you miss one event, you don’t feel left out—because another one is just around the corner,” he said. “And on top of that, the communication is excellent. Whether it’s email, LinkedIn, or Instagram, if you miss an event, it’s really on you—the chamber makes sure you know what’s happening.”
Looking Ahead
At Suncoast Credit Union, Jeff’s focus for the next year is clear: spreading awareness about programs that support both individuals and small businesses. One initiative especially close to his heart is their micro-loan program for startups and entrepreneurs who may not yet be “bankable.”
“My goal is to make sure people know these resources exist,” Jeff explained. “When the need arises, I want the community to think of us first.”
Advice for Others
Jeff’s advice for anyone looking to grow within the Latin business community is simple yet powerful:
“Get involved. Be active. Be intentional. This chamber isn’t about pushing products—it’s about collaboration. If you put in the effort, the opportunities and connections are right here waiting for you.”
Final Thoughts
Before wrapping up, Jeff made it a point to recognize the leadership of Diana Walker and Sandra Atiles Tyrell, whose vision and dedication continue to shape the TBLC into a chamber that truly stands out.
“The chamber is my favorite because of the leadership and the relationships,” he said with a smile. “That’s what makes it special.”
Through his story, Jeff reminds us that success isn’t just about career moves—it’s about community, collaboration, and consistency. And in Tampa Bay, the TBLC continues to be the hub where those values come to life.
