When you first meet Diana Lucia González Rodriguez, her energy is magnetic. She’s thoughtful, driven, and always two steps ahead with ideas to uplift those around her. But behind her bright smile and confident voice is a story of resilience, community, and a passion for building bridges in Tampa Bay.
Diana was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, where she studied Business Administration and added two minors—French and Portuguese—because learning and expanding her worldview was never optional for her, it was instinct. Her university offered a dual-degree program, and Diana seized the chance. She moved to the United States five years ago, finishing her studies at Tulane University in New Orleans with a Bachelor’s in Marketing and Management, plus a specialization in Entrepreneurship.
After graduating in 2021, Diana made her way to Tampa for a job opportunity and quickly realized she had found a new home. “My background has always been marketing,” she shares, “and having the opportunity to be the only person responsible for marketing across the entire company gave me the chance to learn all aspects of it.” Her drive for growth didn’t stop there—she’s now completing her Master’s in Marketing Analytics at the University of South Florida, set to graduate this coming December.
Finding Community in the TBLC
Like many young professionals new to the city, Diana was searching for connection. She first became involved with Emerging Leaders of Tampa Bay, where she met Danielle Hernandez. That introduction opened the door to the Tampa Bay Latin Chamber (TBLC).
“As a Latina, I wanted to connect with my people. I loved networking with other organizations, but it was different. I missed that sense of culture, language, and community. That’s why I joined TBLC.”
At first, Diana attended events like Cafecito con Conexiones, but it wasn’t long before she asked how she could do more. And when TBLC began forming committees, she stepped up as the founding Chair of the Marketing and Innovation Committee. With her expertise, Diana spearheaded efforts to rebrand and redesign the Chamber’s website, modernize its image, and create new ways to attract members.
Her motivation? “I didn’t just want to attend events. I wanted to help TBLC grow and make sure our Latin community had a platform to shine.”
A Support System in Times of Change
For Diana, TBLC has been more than a professional network—it’s been a lifeline. When a company restructure left her in need of a new visa sponsor a year ago, she turned to the Chamber for support. “The members were incredible. Understanding the challenges that internationals face, the members stepped in without hesitation.
She also sees TBLC as uniquely positioned to bridge a gap in Tampa Bay. “There are organizations just for business owners and others just for young professionals. But young Latinos also need mentorship and guidance. At TBLC, I’ve found both, and I want to make sure more people like me feel welcome and supported.”
Biggest Challenges and Proud Moments
Looking back, Diana names moving to the U.S. as one of her greatest challenges and achievements. At just 22, she navigated a new language, culture, and everything from renting an apartment to figuring out visas—all while building her career. “There were times I thought of giving up and going back home, but then I remembered—I didn’t come this far to only come this far.”
Her resilience is deeply rooted in her family’s example. Growing up with entrepreneurial and hard-working parents in Colombia, she learned an essential lesson: “People can take away many things from you—your money, your possessions—but they cannot take away your knowledge. Your education and experience are your most valuable assets.”
Looking Ahead
Diana has her eyes set on the future. Professionally, she plans to continue growing in the marketing field, applying her expertise to help businesses and organizations thrive. Within TBLC, her mission is clear: bring more young professionals into the Chamber, amplify its impact, and ensure others know the value of community.
“I’ve seen friends struggling to find jobs or connections, and I tell them—you don’t have to do it alone. Organizations like TBLC can change your life. They’ve done it for me.”
For Diana, being part of TBLC is not just about networking; it’s about belonging, giving back, and creating opportunities for others to rise. She embodies the spirit of what it means to be Member of the Month—a leader, a connector, and above all, a proud Latina making her mark in Tampa Bay.
